The predominant concept which we hold as love, especially that aspect of love which is romanticised, exalted in song and poetry, searched for to the ends of the earth, and generally being thought of as the quintessential sharing between human beings, would hardly be thought of as being logical in nature. Yet the essential quality of consciousness, the primary emanation of Divinity on the plane of causality, and Its incarnation in humankind, is a pure expression of Universal Mind.

On the Soul level, Venus is the vehicle for the emergence of this Love Principle of Life, through the focused will of the Mind of god. It is this spiritual aspect of Venus which reveals the Son of God (Venus exalted in Pisces) as the Son of Mind perfected (the Initiate). It is this consecrated human being Who is the instrument of God’s love.

Venus functions to turn knowledge into Wisdom. It harmoniously links the lower and the higher mental faculties through the rhythm of relatedness embodied in its sign, Gemini. Its focus in the human organism is through the Third Eye, the eye of the Bull etc. this is the seat of wisdom and the lens through which the more highly developed human being perceives the world.

Venus is thus the focus of synthesis, the resolution of polarity {that is the right and left eyes} and the blending quality which aids in the resolution of duality. It is the energy of Venus which promotes diplomacy and established Right Human Relations between all people and between nations. Venus’s great potency lies in its ability to bring about harmonious relationships within pairs of opposites, thus further creative manifestation on all levels. This may be compared to the function of Mercury, which awakens consciousness by relating opposites, but does not harmonise or blend them.

One of the most beautiful aspects of this function of Venus is also one of the most esoteric. In the Ancient Wisdom Teachings, we find that the work of Venus helped to give Humanity its special quality of being. Venus, through Gemini, brought about the attraction of the Third Kingdom of Nature (the Animal Kingdom) and the Fifth (the Kingdom of the Souls). The result of this ~marriage~ was the birth of the Fourth Kingdom (the Human) - beings whose souls are attached to animal forms and whose great lesson is to redeem the animal self through those initiatic phases leading to Soul infusion of the lower self.

When Venus is working through the consciousness of a Soul-centred individual, the concept and function of love gives one the objective of co-ordinating one’s Active Intelligence so that it produces cohesive acts of goodwill and further right Human Relations. This often requires the sacrifice of the power, personality-centred love nature so that the more transpersonal qualities love may bring about an increasingly impersonal orientation to life.

Life then becomes more mentally polarised; that is, more perceptive into cause rather than effect, essence rather than form. This should not be confused with a life which is intellectually centred, as this indicates an emphasis on the lower mental facilities. The latter serve to store knowledge, formulate opinions, and structure logic. Once a person is thus mentally polarised, his perception of reality is freed from the thralldom of the astral-desire nature, and true service may be externalised into the world.

It must be mentioned that as love has a strongly synthetic quality about it, one doesn’t ~lose~ anything by having a lovingly detached, impersonal attitude. Venus can still bring the partner, but such a one will be a mate, a co-working brother or sister and a companion along the Way.

~That which is on its way comes as a cloud which veils the Sun. But hid behind this cloud of immanence is love, and on the Earth is love and in the heaven is love, and this - the love which maketh all things new - must stand revealed.
